Your anger is not your fault!

You may have limited options for anger management. However, the biggest problem is that these strategies can be useless. How often have you heard these USELESS quotes?

Advice that's not helpful:“Work on yourself”
“Go to your happy place”
“Be mindful”
“Allow the feelings to flow”
“Learn to accepts things”
“Practice self-care”
“Be willing to heal”
“Be open to change”
“Learn to be resilient”
“Accept your emotions”

These are the three MAJOR problems with how anger management courses handle emotions:

► Training the WRONG part of the brain - When we feel anger, we can feel a loss of control. That's because we're in an emotional mindset, triggered by the limbic system. In his book “Thinking, Fast and Slow,” Dr. Daniel Kahneman says that we have two operating systems in our brain, the emotional and the logical brain system. Using logical strategies doesn’t target the emotional mind.► Slower - Anger management courses provide rational thought process and skills to help control anger. Kahneman says that the emotional mind is rapid and runs by default whereas the logical mind requires conscious activation. Using rational thinking is much slower to react because it requires conscious activation. Controlling emotions through logic isn't quick enough.► Doesn't stop EMOTIONAL MOMENTUM - When we get angry, it's typically not just a single occurrence. It makes it easy to get triggered after.

What is EMOTIONAL MOMENTUM?

When we get angry, it's easier for us to get triggered and angry again. Newton’s first law of motion is that objects in motion, stay in motion. Same thing applies to emotions, they carry a momentum. The hormones that trigger your emotions don’t instantly disappear. When you’re happy, chemical signals in your body like dopamine, epinephrine, oxytocin, and serotonin flood your brain and keep you happy. However, when you’re sad, chemical signals like gamma-aminobutyruc acid (GABA) keep you feeling down. The longer you feel these emotions, the harder they are to stop. They have EMOTIONAL MOMENTUM.Anger management techniques only help control ONE trigger. Each trigger afterwards gets stronger because of the EMOTIONAL MOMENTUM.

People in emotion, stay in emotion.

Hi! I'm Dr. Tank

Hi, I'm Dr. Tank PharmD. I studied my entire life to help others. All the medications and therapy in the world couldn't help me control my anger.I lost a lot of relationships and broke a lot of things because of my rage. I only could vent my frustration with heavy lifting.I realized I had to change. I couldn't workout the entire day when everything was making me angry.I didn't need to be happy, I just wanted control of my anger. Sadly, nothing was working.
